Why achieve your dreams when you can help your man achieve his?
Indie artist BLÁNID explores chronic ennui and gender roles in her latest single ‘Funeral Suit’ - out 31 July
Known for her poetic lyricism and haunting vocals, Funeral Suit is BLÁNID’s second collaboration with powerhouse Ciaran Lavery, and kicks off a string of single releases in 2024. With a hypnotising, waltzing beat, the song opens with jarring cynical lyricism: ‘I’ve seen the great toil of man, watched me be erased’. It sets the tone for this unusual track - one that will have you swaying along to the pitfalls of our patriarchal society.
“Men have given women the role of the stoic, silent support; the uncredited solid foundation for centuries. This song is one of frustration and recognition of that”, says Ciaran of the track. BLÁNID agrees commenting, “we wanted to capture a glimpse of the fatigue and apathy that can so often be intertwined with womanhood, and the longing to escape it”.
With a distinctive songwriting style and a voice that demands to be heard, BLÁNID has been recognised as a rising talent industry-wide across the UK and Ireland. Radio & TV features on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ TV 1; Ivors Academy selection for an International Women’s Day performance & YouTubeMusic songwriting camp; a UK tour with American folk icon Judy Collins, plus a National Gallery debut with Isabella Summers (Florence and the Machine), firmly establish her as “well on her way to stardom” (Earmilk).
