INDIE ARTIST BLÁNID EXPLORES QUIET RESIGNATION AND GENDER ROLES IN HER LATEST SINGLE ‘A GOOD GOOD WIFE’ - OUT 11 SEPTEMBER
Known for her poetic lyricism and evocative voice, A Good Good Wife is BLÁNID’s third collaboration with powerhouse Ciaran Lavery, and the sister track to her last release ‘Funeral Suit’.
With BLÁNID’s soaring, mournful vocals taking centre stage, this track serves as a plaintive cry against the trappings of patriarchal roles. In stark contrast to the escapism of Funeral Suit, A Good Good Wife details the quieting of hope over the years, buried by the mundanity of domesticity and the weight of societal expectation: “And when I look for God I find him folded between the linen and the sheets”.
“We wanted to show a glimpse into the anger of womanhood that can get eroded over the years, only to leave behind an aching resignation in its place”, says BLÁNID of the track. Ciaran agrees, adding “there was a time when being a wife was about as ambitious and successful as a woman should aim to be. As a man, I find it shameful and embarrassing. This track holds up a mirror to that line of thinking, and the absurdity of that ideal still existing today”.
With a distinctive songwriting style and a voice that demands to be heard, BLÁNID has been recognised as a rising talent industry-wide across the UK and Ireland. Radio & TV features on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ TV 1; Ivors Academy selection for an International Women’s Day performance & YouTubeMusic songwriting camp; a UK tour with American folk icon Judy Collins, plus a National Gallery debut with Isabella Summers (Florence and the Machine), firmly establish her as “well on her way to stardom” (Earmilk).
